Travel Inspirations - Burb Cannabis
BY IJMAL HAIDER
I tend to travel often and I check out spaces no matter where I go. Hotels, restaurants, retail stores. Things that are creating a buzz, are building a brand, and focused on style. On a recent trip to Vancouver I checked out a Cannabis Retailer called ‘Burb.’ The draw to go in there was the buzz it was getting for the attention to detail and the design forward approach to creating an overall elevated experience. This store had so many different and clever elements that really showed customers that architecture and design are important and part of the story of this retailer. Even their merchandise shared a similar aesthetic to the store.
These days I love a strong, warm, neutral palette which builds on texture, geometry, and layers. These were three elements that I was drawn to at ‘Burb,’ every item was meticulously picked, the asymmetry of the lights and the draping of textures over top made the lights read vintage and artistic, and the draping of the fabric gave it a more contemporary feel with its sparseness and tension through the stretching of the fibres.
Whether you’re a cannabis consumer or not this space is incredible and worth admiring. I love finding places that draw me in and I just sit and digest the story the designer intended to tell, while appreciating all the details that it took to get that look. It didn’t end at the design of the space, it also trickled into simple and sophisticated branding and merchandise. Make sure to give ‘Burb’ a visit.
