This incredible Maui property was years in the making. When I was approached to take on this project we hit the ground running. It took our team 18 months of logistics to ensure everything arrived to the island in its required timeframe, unless you count a global pandemic. When I was creating the lookbook for this project I wanted to give this home a sophisticated beach house feel. It was a story board that was heavily focused on texture, calming tones, and natural materials. The breathtaking views were calming and serene and it was important that we embody that same feel inside the home.

Art and furniture worked in tandem to mimic the picturesque pacific views. The Yechel Gagnon diptych behind the Montauk sofa had topographical lines that paired nicely with Maui’s hills and varied beaches. The David Trubridge sculptural chandelier continues the fluid and organic feel which reflects the view of Kaho’olawe. The fixture pairs well with the marble and hammered steel tulip table, both share a similar symmetry.

Don Dahlke’s “Tropical Fruit” (pictured below) was collected by the client years ago and it was very important for us to build the project around the painting. We wanted to make sure the feeling the client got when she purchased that painting was the same feeling she felt in the overall environment: relaxation, light, and contentment. The Dahlke was placed to play with the light and shadows as they moved throughout the day. The darker side board does not take focus away from the brightness and detail of this artwork.

The primary bedroom was the entire lower level with its own private Lanai. Drool. We selected the Davos bed from Restoration Hardware. Its soft lines and grounded woods had a strong, contemporary beach house aesthetic. We kept prints and patterns to a minimum and focused on textures, artwork, and the landscape to bring life inwards.

The primary bathroom was an expansive ensuite with loads of space and beautiful marble. The styling adds warmth to the windowless space to bring in that Hawaiian playfulness.

This was one of the most fun projects because it allowed so much room for creative expression. Our amazing clients gave carte blanche which allowed me to go with my gut and follow my instincts. The best part of a project is having homeowners that we get to know and truly understand their wants and needs. Then show it back to them in a way they never expected, but always knew they wanted.
