Rhythm and Blues

This particular project was so much fun, the client gave me carte blanche, however we tried to stay away from doing anything “blanche” we chose to use colours, textures, patterns, shapes, and so much more. In particular one room, we coined it as the ‘blue room’ and it was originally intended to be a dining room in the floorplan. When I saw the architectural drawings, before we began, I knew I needed to do that space as a more private media room and entertaining space. ‘The Uncommon Penthouse’ was all about having fun and creating vignettes to transport people to an emotion or a place that made you feel like you were on top of the world.
The blue room had this amazing Venetian Plaster wall done by the very talented creatives of Interiors to Inspire, we wanted to mirror the movement of the skyline from the adjacent window with the gold leaf and how it built up this energy along the wall. Being so close to the rockies the plaster wall also paid homage to the rockies as without being too representational of them. The intention was not to create a mural but instead to create movement and give the expansive walls character and personality.
The furnishings in this space were all about comfort and pulling out colours found in that beautiful wall treatment while adding warmth through soft surfaces (rugs, pleated upholstery, velvets, and sheer grey curtains. We had a custom arcade machine made that sat in the corner of the room and just added to the playfulness of the environment.
The back hallway of this space was initially intended to be a butlers pantry for the original layout of the dining room, it was however a blank slate. We decided to do custom navy blue cabinetry along with a navy blue stone counter top. Every inch of the space was designed to tell a story and follow a rhythm.
